Manuel Gómez Peña has a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the ITAM (Technological Autonomous Institute of Mexico) and he has a Master’s in Public and Private Administration from Yale University.
He worked for the Mexican government in fostering private investment for the country. Manuel was a private consultant for three years in the fields of corporate strategy and analysis, and project development at McKinsey & Company. For six years he filled the position of Director of Strategic Planning and Business Development in companies in the financial services and telecommunications sectors.
Mr. Gómez Peña joined Walmart de México in 2004, as the Director of Strategic Planning. There, he coordinated the business expansion strategy, the business plan for Banco Walmart and he developed an internal venture capital fund to foster innovation, among other projects. He later headed the areas of Merchandising, Operations and New Business Development for the Group over a two-year period. His current position at Walmart de México is Director of Sustainability.
Manuel Gómez Peña es Licenciado en Economía del ITAM y tiene una Maestría en Administración Pública y Privada de la Universidad de Yale en Estados Unidos.
Trabajó para el gobierno mexicano en el fomento a la inversión privada. Fue consultor durante tres años en estrategia corporativa y análisis y desarrollo de proyectos en McKinsey & Company; durante seis años fue Director de Planeación Estratégica y Desarrollo de Negocios en empresas de servicios financieros y de telecomunicaciones.
Se incorporó a Walmart de México en 2004 al área de Planeación Estratégica; ahí coordinó la estrategia de expansión, el plan de negocios del Banco Walmart y desarrolló un fondo de capital de riesgo interno para fomentar la innovación, entre otros proyectos. Posteriormente, estuvo a cargo de áreas de compras, operaciones y desarrollo de nuevos negocios para el grupo durante dos años; actualmente es responsable del área Sustentabilidad de Walmart de México.
